What does Harrah’s Philadelphia have to offer?

Formerly known as Harrah’s Chester, this casino is (unsurprisingly) located in the town of Chester, approximately a half hour drive south on the I-95 from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is one of Pennsylvania’s 6 “racinos”, offering traditional, Vegas-style gaming as well as a harness horse racing track.

Harrah’s Philadelphia is open 24/7 and offers full casino gaming as well as a good selection of bars, restaurants, and entertainment. Simulcast horse betting from tracks across the country is available even when the local races are dark. All this property lacks is an on-site hotel, but there are several nearby hotels due to the property’s close proximity to the Philadelphia airport.

Gaming

On its vast 100,000 sq. ft. casino floor, Harrah’s Philadelphia offers horse race betting as well as all the traditional slots, video poker, table game, and live poker one would expect from a property with the Harrah’s name attached. Let’s go through their offerings, one by one.

Table gaming

Harrah’s Philadelphia has all the table games one expects from a modern casino along with a few less recognized variants. Here’s what you can expect to find in the pit:

  • Craps
  • Blackjack (featuring the Lucky Ladies side bet)
  • Asia Poker
  • Roulette
  • Ultimate Texas Hold’em
  • Four Card Poker
  • Three Card Poker
  • Let It Ride
  • Pai Gow Poker
  • EZ Pai Gow Poker (featuring the Queen’s Dragon side bet)
  • Mississippi Stud
  • Spanish 21
  • Baccarat (mini and midi)
  • EZ Baccarat (featuring the Dragon 7 side bet)

In addition, there is a progressive jackpot side bet available for the table games Four Card Poker, Let It Ride, Mississippi Stud, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em. This is a single jackpot linked across all four of the games.

Slots

Harrah’s large casino floor is home to over 2000 slot machines. All the most popular machines are on offer at betting limits from penny machines to $100-a-spin nosebleed stakes. These higher limit offerings can be found in the new High Limit area featuring 90 slot machines and a dedicated cashier, host desk and most importantly, personalized VIP service befitting a high-roller.

Here are some of Harrah’s Philadelphia’s most popular slot machines on offer:

  • 50 Dragons
  • Michael Jackson King of Pop
  • The Wizard of Oz Gamefield XD
  • Monopoly Prime Reel Estate
  • Super Monopoly Money
  • Wheel of Fortune
  • Lightning Link

Video Poker

The Harrah’s Philadelphia video poker area offers a wide variety of games, including the flexible Game King multi-game, multi-denomination machines that allow patrons to choose the game and limits they prefer, changing on the fly without changing seats.

Here are a couple of examples in detail:

Horse Racing

Harrah’s Philadelphia’s version of a “racino” offers only harness racing live. The live racing season runs from April to December. Race days are typically Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday along with select holidays.

Whether the live track is operating or dark, the casino also takes bets on horse races simulcast from all across the country. Horse race betting itself is never “dark” at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Poker room

The poker room at Harrah’s Philadelphia has 28 tables. Hardly Pennsylvania’s largest, but they do have one thing the others don’t. This is a World Series of Poker poker room (the only one in Pennsylvania) and has been a stop on the WSOP Circuit in years past. The room runs daily and seasonal tournaments and offers promotions such as a bad beat jackpot and regular high hand promotions.

The poker room spreads Texas Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, and Omaha. Their limit games range from $2-4-6 to $20-40 and their no limit games range from $1-2 blinds to $10-25 blinds.

Harrah’s Philadelphia poker room also rewards players for play by giving them food comp dollars for every hour they play. Rates range from $1 per hour for the lower limit games to $3 per hour for higher games.

Total Rewards

As a Harrah’s/Caesar’s property, Harrah’s Philadelphia uses the very well known Total Rewards player rewards program. This program allows players to earn and redeem Reward Credits at over 40 resorts and casinos around the world. This flexibility is one of the best reasons to play at a Harrah’s property. A player can earn rewards one place and use them at several different properties. Earn a ton of points at Harrah’s Philadelphia, then next month enjoy a comped trip with meals at Caesar’s in Las Vegas! This feature is popular and powerful.

Players earn two types of credits simultaneously, reward credits and tier credits. Reward credits can be converted to cash (or free play), and used to purchase food, beverages, hotel stays, entertainment, gift shop purchases, WSOP entries, and many other amenities available at participating Caesar’s properties. Reward credits are also earned when purchasing these items without using points at a rate of 100 reward credits per $1 spent.

The Total Rewards program has four tiers, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Seven Stars. The number of tier credits earned in a calendar year determines your tier placement.

  • Gold – less than 4,999 tier points
  • Platinum – 5,000 to 14,999 tier points
  • Diamond – 15,000 to 149,999 tier points
  • Seven Star – over 150,000 tier points

Diamond and Seven Star benefits.

One of the two chief benefits of the Total Rewards program is strangely unhelpful at Harrah’s Philadelphia. These two tiers frequently earn hotel stays but this property has no hotel. Similarly, these two tier levels allow players to access the Diamond/Seven Stars Lounge at Caesars property’s. Unlike the vast majority of Diamond Lounges at other properties, Harrah’s Philadelphia’s Diamond Lounge doesn’t comp alcoholic drinks.

Needless to say, this bizarre fact (drinks are comped on the casino floor after all) somewhat diminishes the value of the perk at this property.

Nevertheless, these two tiers are widely valued by casino patrons worldwide. Some of the other benefits you can expect when you reach the top two tier levels are:

  • Comped stays, meals, and shows
  • Free play offers
  • Priority service lines
  • Special gifts
  • Vacations
  • Invitations to exclusive slot/video poker tournaments and other events

Online gaming

As of August, 2018, Harrah’s Philadelphia hasn’t officially entered Pennsylvania’s nascent online gaming market, but they will do so very soon. They have already applied for the state’s $10 million license allowing them to operate online slots, table games, and peer-to-peer gaming (geek-speak for online poker). In addition, it is expected they will use 888 Poker as a tech gaming partner to create and manage their online gaming content.

For those Pennsylvanian’s eager to gamble online right now, consider trying Pennsylvania’s online lottery. It’s easy to play, very fun, and you can win real money. Even better, new players receive $5 to play when they sign up.

Dining

While Harrah’s Philadelphia doesn’t have an enormous amount of restaurant offerings, they do cover all the usual bases, with quick and easy meal options, some mid-range sit down eateries, and a couple higher end choices.

Here’s what you’ll find to eat:

  • Cove Steakhouse & Raw Bar – A classic steakhouse with fine wines and exceptional seafood
  • Guy Fieri’s Philly Kitchen + Bar – Features signature cuisine from the famous chef, focusing on casual foods with a unique twist
  • The Market – A “grab ‘n’ go style option for lunch, dinner, and late-night noshing
  • Mien Noodles – Classic Asian cuisine featuring noodle soups and a sushi menu available Wednesday through Sunday
  • Philly Steak Shack – Comfort food done right – Philly style!
  • Krispy Kreme Doughnuts – America’s favorite doughnuts
  • Starbucks – America’s favorite coffee

Nightlife and Entertainment

Again, Harrah’s Philadelphia’s nightlife/bar scene isn’t extensive, but they do have the basics, including a live music hall.

Here’s the scene:

  • C-Bar – A lounge situated at the center of the casino floor. Easy to find and the perfect meeting place for drinks and relaxing
  • The Copper Mug – A popular bar featuring a wide selection of beers to explore
  • The Block Entertainment Center – The place to go for live music. See here for upcoming events.
