Hollywood Casino Sets Sportsbook Launch Date For Saturday

Hollywood Casino Sportsbook PA

This Saturday, on November 17th, the first Pennsylvania sportsbook will officially start taking bets at the Hollywood Casino. Penn National Gaming revealed that at 3 PM on Thursday, that the Hollywood Casino began the first of two sports betting testing days.

Update: this post has been updated to account for the launch date being moved up from Monday to Saturday.

Another testing period will be held from 2 PM to 11 PM on Friday before the official launch on Saturday. The testing days are designed to make sure that staff and equipment would be ready and that the casino was in compliance with state regulations.

Penn National CEO Timothy J Wilmott was understandably pleased that the Hollywood Casino would be the first to offer sports betting in PA.

The enthusiasm around sports betting has been growing since the federal ban was repealed in May, and we look forward to providing our patrons with another great amenity to enjoy at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.

The path to becoming first

Over the last few months, Penn National has been a frontrunner in the push to be the first PA casino to offer sports betting to the state. They were the first to apply for a sports betting license back in August and were among the first casinos to be approved for a license.

But despite Hollywood’s quick start, for a while it looked like Parx Casino might be the first PA casino to start taking bets.

However, the casino hit a slight roadblock as they wait for approval of sportsbetting platform provider Kambi. Hollywood Casino were able to seize the opportunity to leapfrog Parx as well as Sugarhouse and Rivers Casino, which will likely be taking bets by early December.

About the Hollywood Casino Sportsbook

The Hollywood Casino will be managed by William Hill, one of the largest sportsbooks in the world and a company that is quickly expanding in the United States as more states bring sportsbetting to their jurisdictions. The sportsbook itself will be located in an area in the existing simulcast theatre, which is next to the Skybox Sports Bar, located on the second floor of the Hollywood Casino.

The area has been under construction in preparation for the facility and will include dozens of televisions for bettors to watch the action after they place their wagers.

Beginning on Saturday, the Hollywood Casino Sportsbook will be open from 11 AM to midnight from Monday through Friday. The sportsbook will open up an hour earlier on Saturdays and Sundays.

An online sportsbook powered by William Hill will likely be coming in early 2019.
