Xpress Sports At The PA Lottery: How Do Virtual Sports At The Pennsylvania Lottery Work?

PA Virtual Sports are now available through the Pennsylvania Lottery (sign up online with our PA Lottery Bonus Code for $5 free!), representing the newest category of games introduced into the rapidily expanding lottery. With the launch, the PA Lottery will offer two different forms of virtual sports, Xpress Football and Xpress Car Racing.

The new games — which are available exclusively at PA Lottery brick and mortar retailers — are held every five minutes and allow bettors to watch high-definition ultra-realistic graphics to view the results of the football drive or race.

Over 1500 PA establishments will offer the purchase and viewing of virtual sports throughout Pennsylvania. Lottery retailers include participating stores, bars, restaurants and clubs.

What are virtual sports?

Virtual sports are a relatively new form of betting where participants are able to wager on simulated games. Unlike traditional betting on “real” sports, virtual sports allow participants to wager on the favorite sports anytime of the year.

Slight changes to an old favorite

Pennsylvania’s Xpress puts a slightly different spin on virtual games. The same realistic animations/graphics are used to view the outcome in real time, just as a fan may watch a normal game. Results for virtual sports are based are random computerized drawings, effectively making virtual sports no-skill games.

Unlike some virtual sports which simulate an entire game, Virtual Sports in PA instead simulate football “drives,” while Xpress Car Racing simulates an entire race.

Xpress Football

PA’s Virtual Sports football game is called Xpress Football. The simulated games utilize fictional football players and teams for random “drawings” every five minutes.

Instead of betting on the outcome of a game, virtual sports participants bet on the outcome of the “drive,” which starts out at the 20 yard line. Participants will be able to bet on how the drive will be completed, ending in either a touchdown run, touchdown pass, turnover or field goal. Bettors must also predict what play the outcome will occur. The drive system does add a somewhat of a layer complexity to the games — versus betting on an outcome — but should be a somewhat easy learning curve to overcome.

Prizes will be based on the outcome according to the chart below (prizes are based on a $1 play and should be multiplied for larger bets):

Xpress Car Racing

The other virtual sports game that has been introduced in midAugust is called Xpress Car Racing. Like Xpress Football, the outcome is determined by random computerized drawings which simulate a car race consisting of two laps and twelve cars. Races are held at the virtual Pennsylvania Lottery Speedway with bets starting at $1 for each race.

With games every five minutes, each virtual race will result in a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finisher. Lottery participants can win a prize for choosing a car number(s) that finish first or through other outcomes (see below). Participants will receive a $250 top prize if they choose the top three finishers in exact order.

Prizes are awarded under a number of outcomes (chart is based on a $1 play):
